Meet the team

All ophthalmologists working at Clinique Ophtalmo MTL are first and foremost doctors, graduates of Canadian university centres recognized worldwide. They all hold an ophthalmology specialist certificate, awarded by the College of Physicians of Quebec, after training in ophthalmology for 5 years.


Some ophthalmologists also have a subspecialty obtained in a specific field of ophthalmology, having completed postdoctoral studies abroad. Through our many years of study, experience and continuing medical education, we are experts in eye diseases and will be able to help you.

DR EUGÈNE HLADKY

More than 12 000 eye interventions

Doctor Hladky is medical director of Clinique Ophtalmo MTL. He was head of the department of ophthalmology at the Centre Hospitalier Fleury ( CSSSAMN ) until May, 2015. A Montreal native, doctor Hladky obtained his Bachelor of Science diploma in medical biology at the Université du Québec in Trois-Rivières in 1988, before studying medicine at the Université de Montréal in 1993. He completed his specialized residency in ophthalmology at the Université Laval of Québec in 1998. During his residency, he was awarded a prize for the best research project, its subject being juvenile glaucoma. He also studied at the University of Standford in California.

Doctor Hladky is super specialized in glaucoma, following a post-doctoral training at the University of Illinois, in Chicago. He is also a graduate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, of the Collège des médecins du Québec and of the Royal College of the Doctors and Surgeons of Canada. He is a member of the COS (Canadian Ophthalmology Society) , ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery), ARVO (Association of Research and Visual Ophthalmology), QMA (Quebec Medical Association), CMA (Canadian Medical Association), WGA (World Glaucoma Association), ISRS (International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) and AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology).

Doctor Hladky participates in many clinical research projects as well as national and internationals conventions.

DRE ÉLIZABETH GARIÉPY

Dr. Gariépy studied at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine from 1980 to 1985.

She studied ocular pathology at McGill in 1986, and plastic and reconstructive surgery the same year at Notre-Dame Hospital.

She specialized in ophthalmology at the same university, graduating in 1990.

She was awarded her faculty's first research prize in 1990.

Attached to the Institut de Gériatrie de l'Université de Montréal from 1992 to 2007, Jean-Talon Hospital from 1991 to 2015, which became CIUSS du Nord de l'Île until November 2022. Department head from 1992 to 2015.

She began her solo private practice from 1990 to 2001.

She joined the Mediclub Ophthalmology Clinic in the Sanctuary from 2001 to 2022.

She joined Clinique Ophtalmo MTL in October 2021 and permanently in March 2022.

Her main interests are the treatment of Glaucoma, Anterior Segment and minor eyelid surgery.

She now practices solely in her office and with her customary passion.


DRE ÉRIKA MASSICOTTE

Erika Massicotte, MD, FRCSC is an ophthalmologist and surgeon at the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM). She is also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Université de Montréal where she teaches medical students and ophthalmology residents. Dr. Massicotte is subspecialized in oculoplastics and takes care of diseases of the ocular appendages. She performs multiple types of eyelids, lacrimal system and orbital surgeries.

Dr. Massicotte completed her medical degree and her ophthalmology residency at the Université de Montréal. She then continued her training with a two-year fellowship in orbital, oculoplastics and aesthetic surgery at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pennsylvania, United States of America.

Dr. Massicotte continues to share her passion and knowledge in oculoplastics with her peers by presenting at national and international conferences. She is also the author and co-author of book chapters and several articles published in various scientific journals.

DR STÉPHANE BERNARD MEERE

Dr. Meere has been a partner of the Montreal Visually Ill Health Clinic since 2008. Originally from Montreal, Dr. Meere obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McGill University (1990), before pursuing his medical studies at Montreal’s University (1995).

He completed his undergraduate training at the Gimbel Eye Center in Calgary (1996), before completing his residency specialized in ophthalmology at Laval University in Quebec City (2001). He also studied at Standford University in California.
Dr. Meere is a general medical ophthalmologist, with an interest in dry eyes and pediatric ophthalmology and has trained in this direction in Europe. He participates in local, national and international congresses.

DR LOUIS-PIERRE GAUVIN MEUNIER

A graduate of the Université de Montréal in ophthalmology, Dr. Gauvin Meunier, ophthalmologist, joins the team at Clinique Ophtalmo MTL to practice his profession with all the techniques and newly acquired knowledge. His practice extends to all aspects of ophthalmology including the treatment of diseases of the retina (lasers, injections), glaucoma and the anterior segment. He also practiced the cataract surgery.


DRE THAO NGUYEN

Dr. Thao Nguyen completed her medical degree at l’Université de Montréal and specialized in ophthalmology at l’Université Laval in Quebec City. She continued her studies in ophthalmology at Stanford University in California, and then pursued post-doctoral fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of California, Irvine.

 

Dr. Nguyen has experience with the newest generation of laser technologies. She was one of the first ophthalmologists in Canada to work with femtosecond lasers. She also practices intraocular lens procedures. Dr. Nguyen teaches ophthalmology at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, as well as teaches cataract surgery to residents in ophthalmology at the McGill University’s faculty of medicine.

 

Dr. Nguyen is a recipient of the Governor General’s Medal for highest academic standing. She also won first prize at Université Laval’s Research Day, and was awarded an Eye Bank Association of America grant for her research on intracorneal keratoprosthesis implantation with the femtosecond laser.

Dr. Nguyen has given presentations at conferences in San Diego, Fort Lauderdale and Vancouver and was a guest panellist during the annual conference of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She has also co-authored many studies.
